In that post, I showed you this vintage Positano Pelle suede skirt that
I bought last week at Goodwill for $4.94.
In an earlier post, I had written about why I rarely wear skirts. I
explained that I felt lost when it came to styling and wearing a
dress or skirt. I felt very awkward.

So, I thought that I would challenge myself to wear the suede skirt
right away. Besides, given that it is vintage, there's no telling
the last time that skirt saw the light of day!

comfortable. I didn't want to take the obvious route and give the
skirt a western vibe, although that is definitely on the
list for future outfits.

But I want to be clear that I was NOT channeling Ashley Olsen in this outfit!
I was, however, going for comfort and ease. Some stylists might tell
you not to layer oversized on top of long. And that may be true
for some people. But because I'm 5'9", I can usually carry it off.

Once the outfit came together, it was time to take pictures.
Chuck and I know nothing about photography. We have a Nikon D70
that we bought 8 years ago but have no idea how to use.
Instead we use a Canon PSP.
That stands for Point, Shoot, and Pray.
And I'm usually praying for cloudy skies. We have always had the best
luck on overcast days. But Mother Nature doesn't always cooperate.

can see above that it was a little crowded in the shots. Not to mention that
shadow from my nose!
Mr. Sun was out with a vengeance the day that we shot these. And let
me tell you, squinting does not help minimize my crow's feet!
I was about to give up when I remembered a post that I had
read on Not Dressed as Lamb. Catherine has studied photography
and is kind enough to share her photography tips with us.

In that post, Catherine advises that it is best to shoot with
the sun behind you. All these years, I always thought that the
opposite was true. Since we had no other options,
we gave it a try.

A warm glow permeating each image.
Instead of a harsh shadow from my nose, a single sunbeam kisses it instead.
I am so grateful to Catherine for sharing this tip with her readers.

I love this outfit. The color, the makeup, the outfit - all compliment each other. Not to mention - brown is one of my favorite colors!

Love that fringed sweater!! And here we are with so many similarities again. I never really feel comfortable in skirts or dresses. Even in high school the only dress I owned was my Spring Prom dress and since I'm also 5'9 it was too short and I looked like a dork. ;) Okay, we all looked a bit like dorks back in those days. I graduated from high school in 78 and I would have rather been wearing bell bottoms.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a wonderful job styling this gorgeous skirt. What beautiful suede! I normally will wear long over long too, otherwise it looks like I have too much fabric below the waist.
That field is gorgeous you're in. Is that near your home? I wish I could get my guy to take photos of me so I could do something more creative like your pictures. Oh, and I use the same camera too!
I adore your gorgeous, gorgeous layers of soft knits. And you have such beautiful eyes! Thanks for linking up this week. So happy we found each other!

I like that fringed vest - it adds really nice texture. And I can't believe you don't have a fancy camera, but I have heard good things about Canon Power Shot, from several people. Your pictures look really good - all of them!
ReplyDeleteI lived in Cheshire and West Yorkshire when I lived in Britain, and my husband grew up around London. Where is your mother from?
Are you English too? My maiden name is Allen...my grandfather was an orphan so maybe there's so much confusion in our families that when we were accidentally separated at birth they didn't even know it happened! Nobody in my family is rich, but there is a handful of mental illnesses. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh wow - that is a great combination that you've put together. I love that skirt! The price was exceptional - I always get excited when I find a dress that fits perfected at the thrift store. Lovely pictures!
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by to say 'hi' from Katherine's Favorite Things Thursday - better late than never.

ReplyDeleteYOu styled your "new" vintage skirt beautifully - and yes, the photos are just perfect now, following Catherin's advice. And thank *you* for sharing with Visible Monday.
ReplyDeleteWonderful skirt and I think you did great styling it up. The light in the photos is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't pull off the beret and scarf but the rest of the outfit I could see myself wearing (and being oh so comfy).

Beautiful beret and the perfect color to match with so many outfits!
ReplyDeleteYou get an A++ for best photo backgrounds! I love looking at your outfits but I also really enjoy the scenery.
ReplyDeleteGreat skirt! I have not been thrift shopping in ages. You're making me want to go right now!
Wow! Your photos are SO beautiful! Kudos to your photog!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous in your flirty sweater and the skirt!
Your photos are fantastic, whenever the sun will be shining here again I will remember your recommendations. Fantastic also is your outfit, you look fabulous! The skirt is a great finding, I can imagine that there are lots of options how to style it.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is wonderful. I wish I could dress like that. I live in jeans and black tees, giggle. You are beautiful and the photos are wonderful. thank you for sharing your wonderful post at the Thursday Favorite Things hop xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful outfit and fantastic skirt.
ReplyDeleteLove finding super thrift pieces....
You look gorgeous in that outfit! Wish I had your height -- I'm 5' 1 1/2" (that half inch is so important -- hope I don't shrink and lose it). Your legs are probably longer than all of me :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lighting tip. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen your pictures. Beautifully done!

I love the earthy colors in this outfit, and the backdrop is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWestern-Boho with a French beret twist? No matter, very gorgeous with all the textures and subtle accents. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI would call it "Annie Hall"
ReplyDeleteI was having NO problem with your "harsh sun" pix. Then you moved it behind you and OH MY GOODNESS, you GLOW!
Can't believe that skirt was $5. Such a deal!
I love the beret and scarf with the skirt. Such a classic, chic look! And I was certainly glad to hear the photography tip. I had to go back and reread it to see that I had it right. I had always heard you had to be facing the sun, too, which is very hard to smile into! And I always wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog. I appreciated your taking the time to visit and comment! Debbie
ReplyDeleteyOU COULD WELL BE A MODEL IN A FASHION MAGAZINE, SO BEAUTIFUL. I adore skirts, and you are wonderful in one.I want to see you in many more.

That's a gorgeous skirt - I came over because of your comment about my black suede skirt. I wanted to see your style...and I love it! You're so beautiful and at ease in your clothes.
ReplyDeleteI'm only 5'4" but I adore long skirts, so don't be afraid to wear them!
Thanks so much for visiting, Diane!
