Golden Girl

Of course, the Super Bowl was this past weekend. Kickoff was scheduled at
6:30, but the pregame activities (including food and drink at our neighbor's
house) started earlier than that.

Which is why my husband was a little stunned when I announced at 5:00
that it was time to take some pictures for my blog. I had mentioned it
earlier in the day and he had promised that he would take them.

He just didn't realize that I meant as The Game was about to start.

But I had a plan. I wanted to take advantage of the wonderful golden light
that is cast by the setting sun. The warm tones are not only flattering but
would also complement the colors of my outfit du jour.

And the truth was that he owed me. He had made a couple of choices
which landed him in the doghouse on Friday. He purchased a ticket out
by promising to do my bidding over the weekend. (I'm really not manipulative,
but when he offered that as penance I wasn't about to say no!)

So, there we were, in the parking lot of an abandoned warehouse,
miles from out neighbor's homemade pizza and ice cold beers. And,
to Chuck's credit, he gamely (no pun intended!) took pictures as I
basked in that glorious, golden light.

However, neither of us really knows anything about photography and
we use a point and shoot. And taking pictures in such intense light
is really challenging. Yes, the light fills in all the creases, cracks and
crevices better than Juvederm, but it can also completely
blow out the image.

Once the sun had gone down a little more, the pictures got better.

I can't say that his mood did, but he never showed it.

He had given me his word, and his word was golden.

He even took closeups without me knowing it.

I LOVE these boots! Check out the back cutout and straps. They
might be my favorite boots of all time!

I could see the relief on his face when I told him I thought we could
head home. And the truth is that he never missed a moment of
the game. But he had kept his word and that meant the world to me.

I think he might have had the last laugh. When I looked at the pictures
that night, I discovered that I wasn't alone in many of the sunny shots.

There was a ginormous shadow mimicking my every move!

Thank goodness it was the day after Groundhog Day! Good thing
Punxsutawney Phil didn't see THAT shadow. Spring would
be delayed indefinitely!

Check out that nose! Is that Pinocchio's mom?

I couldn't help but laugh! Must be true love after all!

  1. I could spend so much time in your blog! I come here to leave a comment and end up clicking on the little icons of the past posts and just get lost in a sea of amazing ensembles. I love every one!
Those boots would be a favorite of mine if I had them too. I love that color of brown. So warm. I just thrifted a purse in the same color.
You would be so fun to spend a day or two with, shopping and hanging out in front of gorgeous walls! I wish I could get my husband out to take pics of me but I settle for our backyard and a timer on my point and shoot instead. Which can get boring after a while.
Love that overcoat you're wearing. I see you had it on in your Knit Wit post, which I also love. And you love hats too!
Separated at birth...I think so! But you took all the good clothes!

The simple fact that your hubby stepped away from the Super Bowl fun to snap some pics for your blog is amazing and he has my mark! ;-) I love this outfit and those boots are fabulous! A lot of folks don't like shadows but I think they ad character to photos. Any who, following you now. Have a great night! Kiah

  7. Blogger "broke" my first comment, so I hope you don't get this twice.

I love that hat and the boots - they're fabulous! I also really like the way you layered the two coats. The colors look good together - warm, neutral, but not boring.

  10. Good to meet you, Diane! Every element of your outfit worked so well ... colors with textures, especially the skinnies and boots. Lovely layers, scarf, hat and your penitent photog got great shots in the planned afternoon sun. He did well, and after all ... better to miss the kickoff than the last minutes of the game!
